Is Affiliate Marketing Different From Multi Level marketing?
«

Affiliate marketing is a popular online marketing strategy where a merchant recruits various affiliates to market his products, while he pays them a commission on every sale made.
Usually, it involves creating a replicated site for each affiliate. In most cases, the affiliate accumulates his earnings and is issued a cheque periodically.
Multi Level Marketing (Mlm) has become very popular in the past one year or so. Here, a merchant also recruits affiliates who can also recruit other affiliates up to a certain level.
With Mlm, with each sale, not just the affiliate that made the sale is paid a commission, the profit is shared by that affiliate's upline up till a pre agreed level.
In most cases with mlm, payment is instant, no waiting for a cheque to be issued. However, some mlms don't have a product to market. People just refer people to join to get paid, no product is actually marketed.
Following this analysis, I make bold to say that Affiliate Marketing and Multi Level Marketing are one and the same. In fact, Affiliate marketing is a type of Multi Level Marketing.
Very many Internet Gurus while praising and preaching Affiliate Marketing as a good way to make money online condemn Multi Level Marketing Opportunities on the other hand.
Are they getting it wrong??? Or am I the one getting it wrong??? What do you guys think??? Who is right?? Me or the Gurus?

Truly speaking,Affiliate Marketing and Multi-Level Marketing are intertwined in a sort of way just that most people criticize the latter because they may have had a rough deal or something with it.
I know of several people who have joined multi-level marketing networks but are yet to make a dime,to these set of people,multi-level marketing is 'bad'.But that is their personal opinion because there are people who have sweet stories to tell about their involvement in multi-level marketing.
So,the way you really see both is a very personal thing, you just cannot generalize.
Replies are welcome.

yep you are right.
In fact I just got another difference between affiliate marketing and network marketing.
In affiliate marketing, the merchant usually provides a good sales letter on the affiliates' replicated website. Such that all the affiliate needs to do is send traffic to the site. The sales letter on the site takes over and converts the visitor to a customer.
Whereas in almost all MLMs, there is either a poor salesletter or none at all on the webpage. So the mlm marketer needs to do more than sending people to the site. He has to organise seminars, talk and talk and talk to people to convince them.
Seriously, I think if one can have a Multi Level Marketing program with a killer sales letter that has a high conversion rate, Multi Level Marketing is much better than Affiliate marketing. ( We are working on creating one. Will be launched early next year)

You have two choices: become RICHER or stay POORER. After reading this piece, you are free to use whatever phrase you like. ?It?s another scam!? you might say. The truth is I am not here to make friends. My driving philosophy is that we can all become rich if we conquer our greatest enemy - YOU!Earning money on the Internet has been the best thing that has ever happened to me (after committing my hard earned savings into the so-called ?wonder banks? last year; which actually swept me and millions of undiscerning citizens off our feet!)Initially, I thought this was another scam until my $1 paid off. Yes, just $1. So, you don?t need to be so skeptical about loosing a fortune again (At least, not with this program I?m about to tell you!)From just a $1 investment online, I make my money with ease ? NO SEMINAR, N0 BUYING, NO PRODUCT TO SELL, NO TRADING ? all you need is 1 to 2hrs of your time per week, PROMOTING YOUR SITE! (Actually, nothing good comes that easy.) This is what the so-called experts charge seminar fees for in order to reveal what they call ?secrets.?Earning $1000 is not as hard as you think; you need only 3 simple steps. IF YOU HAVE TRIED SEVERAL ONLINE MONEY-MAKING PROGRAMMES AND WERE NOT SATISFIED, MAKE THIS YOUR LAST ATTEMPT! At least, for the sake of financial freedom from hardship: bills, children?s school fees, loans, feeding, etc.Besides your time, you need just $1 in your e-gold account to get registered. If you don?t have an e-gold account, click here to register for FREE!If you have an e-gold account with at least $1 in it, click on the link below to register and start making your cash in few days:

There is no admin interference in this program. 100% fair play guaranteed. If you need more support or need to fund your e-gold account, don?t hesitate to e-mail or call me.

There is no real difference between multi-level marketing programmes and Affiliate programmes.
Both require referrals before we earn commissions.
Unfortunately, Nigerians have carved a new defintion. And jump upon MLMS as soon as the come out. Hoping for the subsequent rush to push them up towards their money rewards rather than market.
MLMS like Affiliate programmes offer products/services for patronage which are integral in marketing. But most Nigerians tend to demphasize this and emphasize on the money involved.
And because of this many people think Affiliate programmes and MLMS are different.
But Internet marketers who know their onions know this is far from the truth.
Affiliate programmes and Multi level marketing programmes loosely speaking are the same.

There are many pointable differences between the two. Though along the line Multi Level Marketing strategy could be used for Affiliate Marketing.
I have tasted the GOOD, The Bad and The Ugly parts of both.
I'll use acronyms for most, so that it wont be as if I'm against a particular programme. But if you've been through any, you'll know when I point to them.
I've done CF, DCC, GC, SS and some others. I'm talking of MLM now. The whole truth of the matter is, none of them have any operational Business. They are not into any investment, it was recently CF dabbled into Forex Trading and it took them a long time testing the water; they've been changing their Traders and strategies. I have some of their sent mails (to me) to back my stand up.
It's true some people made some substantial money (I made some too, that's the truth), but in all sincerity, those who made it were those who entered at the earliest beginning. But right now, nearly all these MLM have peculiar problems now. Some "Smart Alecks" had shortchanged them.
Coming to Affiliate marketing, you just have to do your due diligence before you dabble into just any. Some MLM escapees company are now masquerading and presenting Affiliate Programme (beware and be warned). If you want to affiliate with any programme, if they don't have a product(s) or service(s) that you'll market or draw prospect attention to then know they are spill over of MLM saga.
Most Affiliate Programme wont demand that you pay to join them (without paying, you can't participate in MLM), they'll create a site with their products or services and let you do the marketing, it now depends on your marketing prowess which will determine your commission.
There is another group of Affiliate Programme marketing whereby you own your site and from this site you market whoever or whatever products you wish to market. Any prospect that now visit or purchase a product through your site (you'll have your affiliate ID) will get you commissioned for it. You just have to know how to advertise and optimise your website to attract awesome targeted traffic (online success is most of the time determined by traffic generation and patronage)
Where their paths crosses, some Affiliate Programmes use Multilevel ideas, they'll want you to get more people to join as Affiliate so as to broaden their outreach and they know that if they don't compensate you for your work and the work of the person you are bringing in you wont have the enthusiasm for it. They'll mostly not tell your "downline" to pay before joining.
The major thing to generally have in mind is to do a due diligence on any endeavour that you want to embark on.

TOP 10 COMMON SENSE AFFILIATE TIPS

1. No Traffic = No clicks = No sales = $$$
If your website has no visitors or traffic you won’t make money with affiliate programs as simple as ABC.
2. Use Affiliate programs. That are relevant to your website make sure your site has a related content with affiliate program you’ll like to promote.
3. Text links have a higher CTR (Click thru rate) than banner Ads.
These works best, give a link where people can buy the particular product i.e the site.
4. If your Website has an international audience join international programs.
5. Read the affiliate agreements:
Trust me, it’s a must, you may never get paid if you neglect their guild lines.
6. Don’t choose a program ON HIGH PAY COMMISSION:
Never consider the highest commissions but verify the affiliate program before joining then if it worth it you can join.
7. Track your results: Check your statistics on a regular basis. It’s our rule of thumb that it takes between 50 to 100 clicks to generate a sale, make sure you find the right one for your website.
8. Use your E-mail list or newsletter: Don’t forget to add a paid affiliate advertisement link at the end of your comment like your e-mails and website address.
9. Don’t Spain: Don’t think about it, is found; they’ll surely withdraw all your commissions.
10. Choose 2 – tiered affiliate programs where possible: For details of this, visit www. Affiliate member.com/ affioliate_prom.html
